How Much Virgin Coconut Oil Should One Take

Upon learning that virgin coconut oil is indeed good for the body; the second concern of many is on how it should be taken specifically the recommended dosage per day so they can enjoy all the health benefits of virgin coconut oil.

Apparently the usage and frequency of virgin coconut oil intake will depend on the person who is using it. To determine proper dosage, it is best to observe how much one can take in a day and that if he or she is comfortable with it. It is advisable to initially take only one tablespoon of VCO a day. Let the body get used to it first then if they want can increase VCO intake gradually. Others choose to limit VCO intake to one tablespoon a day but they also apply it on their skin and their diet includes coconut meat and milk.
Another thing to consider in determining amount of dosage is the person’s weight. The one tablespoon a day intake is ideal for person whose weight is below 120 pounds. For a medium sized adult, the recommended dosage is 3 ½ tablespoons a day. This recommendation is based on the amount of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) that is present in breast milk. This is also the perfect formula that gives infants protective shield from infections and other illnesses. Taking the body weight of a person who weighs 150 pounds , the 3 and ½ tablespoon of VCO a day would give him the same MCFA benefit that an infant receives. The 3 to 4 tablespoons a day is adequate for most people. For reference on other body weights, take a look at the table below:
