Studies Proved That Coconut Diet Decreases Risk OF Heart Disease

The people in countries/regions where coconut is abundant have lower incidence of heart disease. This is the result of a new study conducted by the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), an institution committed to the development of the coconut industry of the Philippines. The Philippines is the largest exporter of coconut oil and other coconut products in the world.

According to the result of the study of PCA, people in the Bicol region, an area in the Philippines where people consumed the most coconut oil have the lowest mortality rate caused by coronary and cardiovascular disease. The study cites the magnesium and potassium content of coconut oil as the reason for the low rates of heart disease.

The Philippines has 13 regions but among them, people in the Bicol region consume the most coconut oil because they cook almost all of their food in coconut milk.

This is not the only study that proves the relationship between coconut consumption and low prevalence of heart ailment. A medical professor from University of the Philippines also showed that people in the Polynesian region, particularly in the islands of Puka Puka and Tokelau derive 35 to 40 percent of their dietary fat from coconut oil. Yet in spite of this, they reported low cholesterol values. The cholesterol values is only 170 milligrams in males and 176 milligrams in females.
